Gas Furnaces Repair: Common Problems and Their Solutions

Uh oh! Is your gas furnace not working properly? Particularly as the coldest winter months begin to approach, this is a common occurrence. It can be helpful to know what the most common furnace-related problems are – and how to troubleshoot them.

  • Clogged or dirty filters. This is inarguably one of the most common gas furnace problems that homeowners experience. Many people forget to clean their filters regularly, which results in severely limited airflow, a blocked limit switch, and other issues. To prevent debris buildup in your filters, it’s recommended that you should thoroughly clean your filters at least once per month.
  • Check your thermostat. Your thermostat may be malfunctioning, or it may just not be on the right setting (yes, it happens to the best of us!) If you suspect that something is wrong with your furnace, always double-check the thermostat. It may even be that the batteries in the control panel are dead.
  • Your pilot isn’t working. If the problem is your pilot, there’s no way that your home will get sufficiently heated. Check to make sure that your pilot is lit properly.
  • Check the circuit breaker. You never know – the problem may be that your breaker has tripped or blown a fuse.

If you’re in doubt about what to do when your furnace malfunctions, sometimes the best thing to do is call in the experts!
